Ripon reduces water use 21%

Residents of the City of Ripon reduced their water usage for October by 21 percent.

That’s according Director of Public Works James Pease during his staff report at the Tuesday Ripon City Council meeting.
Once again, he used the pre-drought 2013 water levels as the base-line comparison.

While Gov. Gavin Newsom recently asked Californians to cut down their monthly water usage by 15 percent due to the current severe drought conditions, Pease pointed out that Ripon is near those marks.

“We’re at 12 percent reduction compared to (October) 2020,” he added.

Pease noted the change of the watering schedule for landscaping. “We’re now one day a week,” he said.

Starting this month through February, all properties within city limits with even numbered addresses are only allowed to water on Saturdays.

Those with odd numbered addresses can likewise on Sundays.

No watering is allowed between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Those in violation to the prescribed watering conservation measures will be assessed with a penalty after that first written warning.

First violation within a one-year period is $50, with fines doubling each time to those who continue to be in violation.
