River of Opportunity might just be “the” benefit dinner venue of 2026.

It’s the name that the Lathrop Chamber of Commerce has given the Saturday, May 30, event taking place on the River Island bicycle path bridge above the Bradshaw Crossing access to River Islands.

Limited to 150 tickets, the signature outdoor dining experience includes a cocktail reception, live entertainment and a candlelight dinner with sweeping views of the San Joaquin River as well as the River Islands community.

Tickets sales have yet to go live, but an interest list is being formed via the chamber’s Instagram account bio link. Tickets are expected to go fast.

The event is designed to bring the Lathrop community together in support of the Lathrop Chamber of Commerce.

It’s the ideal location given it overlooks the Bradshaw Crossing bridge.

The bridge was named in honor of Mike Bradshaw, a Lathrop activist who passed away in January 2011 at age 49.

He gets credit for helping pass Measure D in 2010 that helped make the version of the 15,001 home planned community now being built possible.

Bradshaw tirelessly advocated steps to make sure Lathrop would not become two communities as River Islands developed.

He seized every opportunity to make sure the city’s growth and progress created a bridge between old and new Lathrop, a challenging goal considering the San Joaquin River could pose as an insurmountable divider.

While the practical things included items such as River Islands growth making it financially possible for the city to elevate various aspects of the oldest parts of Lathrop, Bradshaw envisioned a bridge to bring the entire community together as well as to celebrate its history and to build a future together.

The community, in turn, honored his efforts by embracing a proposal to name the bridge Bradshaw Crossing as a “lasting testament to his vision, inspiring generations to come.”
