ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Troy Morrow, Sierra baseball
AOW Troy Morrow

After getting swept by rival East Union in the Timberwolves’ Valley Oak League-opening series, they were able to get the bats going last week in two wins over Kimball.

No one was as productive as Morrow, who reached base in all seven of his plate appearances and scored six runs in the 5-1 and 11-0 victories.

“Troy had a great week of baseball,” Sierra coach Travis Thomson said. “He has worked hard to get to where he is, and we are proud of him. He is one of very few players who can play the infield and outfield at a high level. We’re excited to see what he does with baseball after high school.”

Morrow went 6 for 7 with two doubles, four stolen bases and an RBI. He also reached on an error.

With the series won, Sierra’s chance to complete the three-game sweep on Friday was postponed because of rain.

That did not slow Morrow’s roll, however. In a 10-4 loss to reigning champion Central Catholic this past Monday, he drew two walks and clubbed his second homer of the season.

He is hitting for a .349 average overall with team-highs in runs (12), homers (2) and steals (6).

Sierra (2-4 VOL, 9-7 overall) travels to Central Catholic today.
