All three area qualifiers for the Sac-Joaquin Section boys tennis playoffs were eliminated in the opening round on Tuesday.
Sierra was ousted in Division III by second-seeded Merced, 8-1. The No. 7 Timberwolves (9-8) were two-time reigning Division IV champions but had to bump up a level because of enrollment,
The all-senior tandem of Johan Arroyo and Ashvin Gill is going out with a bang. The No. 3 doubles team prevented the shutout, downing Owen Cooper and Harold Ornelas, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8.
Sierra was competitive in the other doubles matches. Sagar Shah and Arnav Sah were defeated by Connor Scheusler and Alexander Hampton 1-6, 5-7 in the No. 1 match. Raunak Mahar and Reyansh Bansode dropped the No. 2 match 2-6, 5-7 against Bishop Nunez and Keaton Hillyer.
Merced (12-5) swept all singles contests. Starting at No. 1, James Tetangco defeated Harshith Kumar 6-1, 6-1; Ian Hansford defeated Ryan Alves 6-2, 6-2; Alejandro Martinez defeated Ashton Hillard 6-1, 6-0; Parth Mishra defeated Himmat Dosanjh 6-1, 6-1; Gagandeep Singh defeated Noah Brum 6-1, 6-3; and Carlos Montanez defeated Zain Ali, 6-3, 6-4.
The Central California Conference champion Bears will host No. 3 Woodcreek (10-10) in the semifinals Thursday.

Roseville 8, East Union 1
Eli Kotta got the lone win for seventh-seeded East Union (8-9), as he swept Nolan Leverett at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-2.
No. 2 Roseville (16-1-2) eked out two singles wins in third sets and a highly-competitive No. 1 doubles match. Myles Nguyen won the No. 1 singles match for the Foothill Valley League champion Tigers 6-1, 2-6, 10-7 over Andrew Delgado. At No. 5 singles, Steven Canlas held off EU’s Muhammad Hussain, 5-7, 6-3, 10-5.
The Lancers’ No. 1 doubles team of Martin Kalladanthyil and Curtis Hansen gave Noah Lacerda and Zachary Eldridge all they could handle before ultimately falling short, 5-7, 6-7 (6).
Competing at Nos. 2-4 singles for East Union were Christopher De Santos (3-6, 3-6), Jithin Joy (1-6, 1-6) and Anh Tran (1-6, 3-6).
Representing the Lancers at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles were Carl Azevedo/Camden Collier (4-6, 1-6) and Karthik Sharma/Matthew Roldan (0-6, 0-6).

Oakdale 8, Lathrop 1
Sixth-seeded Lathrop showed well in three matches decided in third sets.
Agamjot Singh earned the Spartans’ lone team point with a 2-6, 7-5, 10-7 comeback win over Jaxton Marler at No. 2 singles. Oakdale’s Mathew Yakligian outlasted Vincent Elizondo in the No. 1 singles match, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.
The Mustangs got the edge at No. 2 doubles, as Elias Ferguson and Border Rath staved off Harman Singh and Manmeet Singh, 3-6, 6-4, 13-11.
