ROUNDUP: Flory’s 1-under 61 leads Ripon to 3rd straight TVL golf tourney win

Ripon’s boys golf team continued its dominant start to the Trans Valley League season, winning for a third straight week.

Chad Flory carded a 1-under-par 61 at River Oaks Golf Course in Ceres, and the Indians netted a team score of 335 in the third of seven TVL 18-hole tournaments. Ripon hosts next week at Jack Tone Golf Course.

Following the leader was Escalon with a 376, Hughson with a 402, Livingston with a 414 and Riverbank with a 488. Shorthanded Hilmar did not post a score.

The top three individuals all came from Ripon. Trailing Flory was Gage Anderson with a 65 and Trent Vink with a 66. Vince Uecker placed fifth overall with a 69, and Evan McKeon rounded out the team score with a 74. Escalon’s Bryce McKenzie was the only other player to score in the 60s with a 68.

 

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Sierra 3, Kimball 0

In Tracy, David Caamano helped secure the sweep by serving the final 10 points of the Valley Oak League match. He fired four aces during that run, and the Timberwolves (2-0, 5-4 overall) won, 25-18, 25-22, 25-18.

Caamano finished with five aces to go with four kills. Setter Noel Ruezga added four kills and three aces to go with 13 assists. Arshdeep Dhaliwal spearheaded Sierra’s balanced attack with six kills. Brian Huynh chipped in five kills, nine assists, five aces and two blocks. Ajay Grewal also had five kills and two blocks.

 

East Union 3, Weston Ranch 0

Jai Aquino racked up 10 kills and four aces, and the host Lancers (1-1 VOL, 5-5 overall) evened their record after sweeping 25-17, 26-24, 25-22.

Nathan Rodriguez contributed seven kills and three aces. Braulio Reyes handed out 10 assists.

 

Manteca 3, Mountain House 1

The Buffaloes (9-5) earned a third straight victory with the non-league road match, 24-26, 25-19, 25-15, 25-22.

Jon Rojas anchored the attack with 37 assists, while Camdan Steckler accumulated 23 kills and five blocks. Manteca returns to VOL action next Tuesday at East Union.

 

BOYS TENNIS

Manteca 8, Weston Ranch 1

One day after dropping its first match of the season, Manteca (5-1 VOL) bounced back with a lopsided win at Weston Ranch.

Freshman Michael Osanna provided one of the highlights by winning his varsity singles debut 6-0, 6-0 from the No. 6 spot. The Buffaloes swept the other five singles matches, with Jonas Mueller (6-0, 6-0), Yok Chai Ma (6-0, 6-0), Emiliano Hurtado (6-0, 6-1), Ivan Barajas (6-2, 6-0) and Luke Samson (6-1, 6-2) also turning in dominant performances.

At No. 1 doubles, Zerak Jalali and Landon Butler prevailed, 6-2, 6-4. Weston Ranch’s lone win came at No. 2 doubles, as Manvir Singh and Simranjot Singh staved off Vincent Almeida and Declan Edwards, 6-1, 6-5 (6). The Cougars forfeited the third doubles match.

 

Central Catholic 9, Sierra 0

First-place Central Catholic showed its depth at Sierra, scoring a shutout despite missing its top two players.

Sierra’s Brady Alves was competitive in the No. 1 singles showdown, falling short against Spencer Cole, 6-7, 6-7.

 

BASEBALL

Central Catholic 8, Weston Ranch 1

Dustin Tinsley tripled and scored on an error in the bottom of the first, but the Cougars (0-4 VOL, 5-10 overall) couldn’t produce another offensive highlight the rest of the way. Tinsley also had a single, finishing 2 for 3.

Nolan Anderson was otherwise in full control on the mound for the Raiders (4-0, 9-6), ringing up 13 strikeouts in a three-hitter. Sophomore Ayden Tinsley took the loss but was done in by two errors leading to four runs.

 

Beyer 8, Lathrop 3

Host Lathrop fell to 2-4 in the Western Athletic Conference and 4-6 overall.

The Spartans were held to three hits, and their defensive errors helped Beyer create separation. Beyer also won the junior varsity game, 12-3.

 

JV softball

Johansen 26, Lathrop 7

Giselle Mejia led Lathrop in the WAC contest Wednesday, going 3 for 3 with a run. Natalie Arceo (two runs), Allana Lewis (run) and Julissa Aguilar (run) were all 2 for 3.

 

JV boys volleyball

Sierra 2, Kimball 0

Sierra rolled to a 25-20, 25-20 road win behind four kills apiece from Owen Altadonna (two blocks) and Xavier Gaspar. Bonpatrick Estrella collected four aces and six digs.

 

Weston Ranch 2, East Union 0

East Union dropped a 9-25, 17-25 decision. Isaac Ramirez and Gabe Holgun drilled two kills apiece for the Lancers.
