Tucker Davidson came out from behind the plate for the Spreckels Park Little League minor Pirates and took the mound in the third inning Tuesday, blanking the Marlins the rest of the way and leading the Pirates to a 9-5 win. This puts the Pirates in first place with one game left to play and a trip to the District 67 Tournament of Champions on the line.

Davidson shed his catcher’s gear with two outs in the third inning, two on and three across for the Marlins in the frame with the Pirates leading 6-5. Davidson walked the first batter he faced to load the bases before inducing and infield popup to end the inning. Davidson struck out the side in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, allowing no runs with two hits and three walks.  Anthony Damico had the big bat for the Pirates, going 3 for 3 with a triple, double, RBI and a run. Damico doubled, scored and knocked in a run in a five-run second when teammate Franklin Cervantes laced a two-RBI double.

Bryce Teixeira reached base three times and scored twice for the Marlins, getting one hit while sizzling two off his bat that were too hot to handle. Noah Camareno added a two-RBI double and Gio Alvarez was 2 for 2 with an RBI, a run and a walk.
