Tommy Wise was killed last Friday evening but his memory will be carried on by his friends and family by the way he lived his life – “Live Like Tommy” – that impressed so many with his outgoing care for others less fortunate.

Wise was eastbound on Friday evening in his Honda sedan with his 40-year-old mechanic driving going for parts at one of the truck stops in Ripon.  It was 7:25 p.m. when they approached the T-intersection with Cottage Avenue.  The Highway Patrol report states that a 22-year-old woman motorist was driving a 2000 GMC pickup truck and had been stopped at the stop sign facing Lathrop Road.

For a reason that has yet to be determined, according to CHP Officer J. Ridad, the GMC moved forward into the intersection into the path of the Wise vehicle and the two collided.  Wise, riding as the front seat passenger, was transported to San Joaquin General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The woman motorist driving the GMC was transported to Doctors Hospital of Manteca with major injuries, according to the CHP.  The mechanic driving the Wise vehicle was transported to San Joaquin General Hospital and released reportedly without sustaining injuries.  It is currently unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor in the Lathrop Road collision.

Tommy Wise’s funeral is set for 2 p.m. on Friday with a viewing on Thursday.  There will be a reception following the services.
