Some 132 eighth-grade students at Mossdale Elementary School took that next step on Tuesday.

By receiving their promotion certificates, they now gear up for four years of high school. Many will be attending Lathrop High in the next few months.

This Class of 2015 was one of largest groups to date for the Promotion Ceremony of the Manteca Unified School District, according to Principal Susan Sanders.

She praised the classmates for re-instituting Student Council led by president Haley Mathews and vice president Valerie Villanueva.

The top academic students were Mandeep Garcha, Joselyn Hurtado, Matthew Julien and Alyssa Remonida.

Hurtado took a different road from most, having gone to several schools including Joseph Widmer Elementary School two years earlier while moving to the area from San Jose. “It’s been a long drive with bumps and cracks along the way but we made it,” she said.

Added Julien: “Each of us is ready for the next step – today would be a good day to ask for money.”

He, Garcha, Hurtado and Remonida were joined by Sarah Oltjentbruns, Sherity Timbreza, Candace Yu, Alondra Galvez Buenrostro, Haley Mathews, and Aveleen Kaur as Mossdale 4.0 (grade point average) students.

Galvez Buenrostro, Sherity Timbreza, Graciella Velasco and Wendy Fabian were recipients of the MUSD Awards.
