ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Two 37-year-old men have been charged with attempted possession of heroin with intent to distribute after federal authorities seized more than three pounds of the drug in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough
The Anchorage Daily News reports Baretta Faatafuga and James Gwaltney were taken into custody last week.
A postal inspector Wednesday executed a search warrant on a package mailed from Manteca, Calif., to an address in Houston, a community north of Wasilla.
Charging documents say the package contained a safe holding 3 pounds, 9 ounces of hard brown heroin.
Investigators put fake drugs in the safe, repackaged it and had it delivered to the Houston home.
Investigators say a substance detected on Faatafuga’s hands indicated he had opened the package. Gwaltney was arrested in a motor home behind the house.
