Lathrop tree lighting Dec. 1 starts season

Lathrop is getting into the spirit of Christmas with everything from a home decorating contest to a parade.
And it’s all happening thanks to the Lathrop Parks and Recreation Department.
The season kicks off Thursday, Dec. 1, with the Lathrop tree lighting ceremony at Valverde Park starting at 6:30 p.m. The event will include caroling, hot chocolate and a visit from Santa.
The big day is Saturday, Dec. 10. It starts with Breakfast with Santa at Scott Brooks Gym at Valverde Park
uBREAKFAST WITH SANTA: Tickets for the 9 a.m. event are $10 each. It includes a photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus, games, breakfast and a chance for kids to make their own tree ornament. For tickets, contact staff at the Lathrop Community Center or the Lathrop Generations Center.
uCHRISTMAS PARADE: The annual Lathrop Christmas parade is Saturday, Dec. 10, starting at 11 a.m. along Fifth and J streets. It includes marching bands, dancers, floats, Santa, Mrs. Claus and more.
uSANTA CLAUS: Imagine how excited your child will be receiving a call from Santa wishing them a Merry Christmas. The calls will take place Monday, Dec. 12, and Tuesday, Dec. 13, from 5 to 8 p.m.
The fee is $2. All proceeds go toward families in need during the holiday season. Contact staff at the Lathrop Community Center or the Lathrop Generations Center to make arrangements.
uCELEBRATION OF LIGHTS: The city’s annual home decorating contest judging takes place on Wednesday, Dec. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. To enter, contact staff at the Lathrop Community Center or the Lathrop Generations Center.
