The City of Ripon continues to smooth out sidewalk trip hazards around town.

Since Vaughan Construction was brought aboard, 51 of those have been either removed or replaced in the past three years.

Eight are pending completion, according to the staff report at the last Ripon City Council meeting.

No discussion was necessary as elected leaders approved four recent change orders submitted by Vaughan Construction, totaling over $10,677.

Two of those sites will be paid via the Street & Road Funds while the other two (a combined $2,614) are the homeowners’ responsibility – they’ve agreed in writing to reimburse the city for the repair cost, the staff report said.

Council, in connection with updated “Sidewalk Repair, Maintenance or Replace” ordinance, approved Vaughan Construction to do the work in 2019.

In that first year, 13 sidewalk projects were completed. Of that, the homeowner / utility company were the responsible party.

Twenty-two were completed in 2020, with the responsible party, in this case, being the 16 homeowner / utility company.

Last year, seven sidewalk trip hazards were completed. The city, as the responsible party, took care of the billing for four of those sites.
