Husband is believed to have smuggled meth to his wife in San Joaquin County Jail

Last month San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Deputies discovered methamphetamine in the cell of a female inmate in the San Joaquin County Jail.

And last week they arrested the man that they claim brought it in.

According to the agency, when correctional officers discovered methamphetamine in the cell of inmate Angela Escobar, they conducted an investigation and determined that the drugs were being smuggled into the facility by the husband of another inmate.

Renne Baca, the husband of inmate Crystal Garner, was arrested by deputies earlier this month and booked into custody on charges of bringing a controlled substance into a jail facility and conspiracy to commit a crime. Both Escabar and Garner – both of whom are being held without bail – received additional charges as well.

“This is an excellent example of our Correctional Officers and Deputies working together to ensure we will not tolerate crime in or outside our jail,” the agency wrote in a statement about the arrest.

The sheriff’s office has been transparent about the amount of contraband that people try to smuggle into the facility – often highlighting the arrests when they are made with the details about how the perpetrators attempted to avoid detection.
