Shooting in Ripon; suspect still at large

The relative calm of a sleepy Ripon neighborhood was shattered late Friday night when a shooting left one person hospitalized and the police searching for the suspect.

The incident occurred on Oct. 22 when Ripon Police were dispatched to the 700 block of Milgeo Avenue for reports of a shooting.

When police arrived on scene, they located a male victim inside of the residence that was transported to an area hospital with a gunshot wound. While the Ripon Police initially reported that the suspect was treated for “non-life-threatening injuries” on Saturday morning, friends of the victim claim that he was in critical condition.

Ripon Police identified the suspect as only a male at this time and noted that it appears the victim and the suspect know one another – a claim that some on social media have disputed. While rumors about the identity of the victim and the suspect are circulating widely – as is speculation on the home where the shooting took place – the police have released no additional formal information at this time.

The incident continues to be under investigation, and the name of the victim or any potential suspects have not been released at this time.
