WARDENS KILL MOUNTAIN LION CUBS IN HALF MOON BAY: HALF MOON BAY. (AP) — The California Department of Fish and Game has ordered a necropsy on two mountain lion cubs that were fatally shot by wardens in downtown Half Moon Bay.

Fish and Game officials say the lions were behaving abnormally before they were killed on Saturday in a backyard. They had blank stares and did not run away when the wardens approached them.

Spokeswoman Janice Mackey told the San Mateo County Times that trying to tranquilize them would have been difficult and endangered the public if they managed to escape.

She called shooting the animals a last resort.

The lions appeared to be 9 months old and around 25 to 30 pounds each — thin for their age. The necropsy will try to explain what may have caused their behavior.

FEDS ARREST 11 IN LARGE NORCAL METH BUST: SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Authorities say 11 people are facing charges after a methamphetamine bust in Northern California that federal prosecutors are describing as one of the biggest in the nation's history.

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in San Francisco says federal agents and local police seized about 570 pounds of the drug on Nov. 30. Authorities estimated the street value of the meth to be around $6 million.

Officials have not released the names of those arrested — or said where the drugs were seized — but in addition to the federal drug agents, San Jose police officers and officers from other nearby agencies took part in the arrests.

In a federal indictment that was unsealed Monday, authorities say they also seized 10 guns, seven vehicles and about $160,000 in cash.

SHIRAKAWA MUST RETURN $13K IN CREDIT CARD EXPENSES: SAN JOSE (AP) — A scathing Santa Clara County internal audit shows Supervisor George Shirakawa used his taxpayer-funded credit card for prohibited personal expenses such as hotel rooms, meals, car rentals and golf games.

The San Jose Mercury News says Shirakawa was ordered on Monday to immediately reimburse nearly $13,000.

The latest pay-back demand brings the total amount of forbidden credit charges to nearly $37,000 in the past four years.

Shirakawa's county credit card is supposed to be used for small-item purchases and county business trip expenses.

SAN FRANCISCO NUDITY BAN CLEARS LAST HURDLE: SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco lawmakers have given final approval to an ordinance that makes it illegal for residents and visitors to bare their genitals in most public places.

The city's Board of Supervisors voted 7-4 Tuesday in favor of the ban that was introduced in response to a group of nudists that regularly gathers in the city's predominantly gay Castro District.

Mayor Edwin Lee is expected to sign the measure, which is scheduled to go into effect Feb. 1. Opponents already have brought a lawsuit seeking to get it overturned on free speech grounds.

Offenders of the law would face fines and possible jail time for multiple violations.

Exceptions would be made for permitted events such as the city's gay pride parade and the Bay-to-Breakers street race.
