Lawrence Angelo Domoto was born Feb. 24, 1927 in Oakland, CA. he passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Aug. 21, 2010 in Citrus Heights, CA.

He is survived by his daughter Rosann (Craig McIntosh) of Folsom, son Anthony (Cecelia Gomes) of Los Banos, sister Geraldine Beeson of Manteca, half-brother David Isola (Dora) of Gustine, brother-in-law Leonard Setaro (Joyce) of Modesto, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Grace, in June 2000.

Mr. Domoto was a loving father, little league coach for St. Anthony, music lover, Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, and an Ambassador of Good Will. He always had a smile on his face and a joke for his friends. He was a member of our Greatest Generation, having served in World War II in Europe, marching through ice and snow, involved in heavy fighting and eventually liberating Nazi concentration camps, resulting in the saving of many lives. He did not want to talk about this very much as the memories were still very painful to him, but when he did, it was living history and fascinating. He will be remembered for unselfishly helping others, his volunteerism, and his love of family. We were all fortunate to have rubbed shoulders with him and he will be very much missed.

His family would like to acknowledge his wonderful caregivers Florica and Stephen Sferdian, Maria and Manna, and his housemates at In Loving Hands Board and Care in Citrus Heights, CA. who were his second family for the past three months. Their kindness and love extended and enhanced his life.

A Rosary will take place Thursday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m. at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel in Los Banos.

Services will be held Friday, Sept. 3, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Los Banos. Burial will follow at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his name to Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue, 7495 Natomas Road, Elverta, CA 95626; 916-655-1410; Tax ID: 68-0442702 or the American Diabetes Association.
