LATHROP – After four attempts at getting in their makeup game, East Union and Lathrop finally met up and it was all Lancers in their 14-4 Valley Oak League sophomore softball win over the Spartans Thursday.
Natalie large went the distance for the Lancers (8-3 VOL, 16-6 overall) striking out six and walking one in the complete game effort. Stephanie Booke led East Union’s charge, going 3 for 3, while teammate Gianna Gesler finished the game 3 for 4.
The Lancers will complete another makeup contest Monday when they battle with Manteca high at Northgate at 3:30 p.m.
“Brock was on, plain and simple,” Lancer head coach Mike James said. “He had really strong command of his pitches today.
“He’s our first pitcher to go all seven innings.”
Swift tossed seven innings, striking out four and holding Sonora to three hits. Robert Thomson, Zac Carrillo and Alex Dias each had run scoring hits to lead the Lancers (8-2, 11-5).
East Union will be back on the diamond today when they host the Lathrop Spartans at 4 p.m.
Anthony Cota led the charge, going 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored.
Esmeralda Cuenca netted a hat trick for the Buffaloes to set the tone. Adaeze Nkwacha also tallied a goal, while teammate Jazmine Odell culminated the scoring with her second half goal. The Buffaloes had netted each of their five goals before Sonora got on the scoreboard.
