A Manteca couple found dead in their Gladiola Place home Monday morning died of gun shots according to autopsy results.  

The bodies of Anthony Ocanas, 42, and Syville Kate Tram, 41, were found by the front door at about 10 a.m. Monday by a relative checking on their welfare. They hadn’t been seen since Saturday. Tram was an office manager in Santa Clara. Ocanas worked for an air conditioning contractor in Mountain View and had two teen-age children from a previous relationship who lived with their mother for the last year.

The home is located some three blocks north of Joshua Cowell School and two blocks east of Pestana Avenue near Louise Avenue.  The investigation by the coroner’s office lasted into Monday evening at the home.

Police couldn’t provide an estimated time of death in the case but said it was probably sometime Saturday night or Sunday. They said Ocanas had shot the woman and then turned the gun on himself.  Investigators had not found a suicide note or any explanation of Ocanas’ actions.

Neighbors bringing in their refuse Toter had noticed Ocanas’ pickup truck parked in his driveway when he should have been at work brought attention to the single story residence where the bodies were found.

Manteca Police spokesman Rex Osborn said that a hand gun was found near the bodies of the couple who were not married but who had a long-term relationship of about 10 years.

Osborn said they weren’t facing foreclosure on the home they bought four years ago for $440,000 but it was established that their house was being offered in a short sale — the first step approaching foreclosure.  The price for the nearly 2,700 square foot house was $305,000 over $100,000 less than homes in the area sold for when they were new four to five years ago.   The couple was in the process of moving, Osborn said.  Much of the furnishings had already been moved out of the residence.

A pleasure boat was parked next to the garage behind the front fence and a motorcycle was parked inside the open garage.

A bicycle was also visible in the garage.  A bike that a 10-year-old a boy rode when he visited the Ocanas home, neighbors noted.

A pair of pet poodles located in the back yard had been transported to the Manteca animal shelter but were expected to be returned to other family members.
