Manteca schools tackling summer maintenance work

Schools out for summer.

And now the work begins to prepare for the return of 25,000 Manteca Unified students on Aug. 6.

There is a long laundry list of projects being tackled by 180 custodian staff workers and 60 maintenance workers at 29 school campuses involving more than 1,600 classrooms plus additional facilities.

Overall, Manteca Unified has 2.6 million square feet of facilities to maintain that represent a replacement cost well in excess of $1 billion.

Major maintenance work at specific crews school:

*Roofing replacement at Joshua Cowell School.

*Roofing repairs at the Lathrop High gym.

*Stella Brockman School gym flooring replacement.

*George Komure School flooring replacement.

*Sierra High gym floor refinishing.

*Weston Ranch High floor refinishing.

Grounds-related work includes:

*Districtwide tree maintenance throughout the summer.

*Irrigation system mapping and efficiency improvements.

*Irrigation valve replacement at Stella Brockman.

*Field renovations at Shasta, New Haven, and Brock Elliott schools.

*Athletic field and drainage improvements at high school sites.

Custodial related work includes:

*Districtwide deep cleaning of classrooms, offices, and common areas.

*Floor stripping, waxing, and carpet cleaning.

*Furniture, fixture, and surfaces cleaned and sanitized.

*Lighting and ceiling tile replacement.

*Exterior/interior minor repairs and painting.

Additional summer work includes:

*Roof and gutter cleaning.

*Power washing of buildings and exterior surfaces.

*Restroom repairs and deep cleaning.

*Ongoing landscaping including trimming and weeding.

*Gym floor recoating at all sites.

*Facility inspections.
