The Manteca Unified School District announced its 2009 classified employees of the year last Tuesday.

Included were Lisa Sotelo (Office & Technical), Jackie Bylow (Para-educator & Instructional Assistant), Vichet Tan (Maintenance & Operations) and Ray Espinoza (Support & Security).

“Ray has also been selected as the San Joaquin County classified employee of the year in this category,” said Stephanie Perez, director of classified personnel.

Espinoza, who works in support service at Manteca Day School, has been with the district since 2002.

Meanwhile, Tan is in charge of maintenance at Lindbergh Educational Center. He’s been with Manteca Unified since 2000.

Lindbergh Principal Howard Holtsman praised Tan’s work ethics.

“Vichet is here early and will stay late,” he said.

Bylow, who has been with the district since 1987, is the librarian at Golden West School, where she often takes charge of the annual family night book fairs.

Sherie Gates, who went from vice principal at Stella Brockman to principal at Golden West over a year ago, credited Bylow for helping her adapt to the change.

“She made it a smooth transition for me to go from the Stella Brockman family to the Golden West family,” Gates said.

Sotelo, who sported a queen-for-a-day sash compliment of her fellow workers, is the office manager at the Sequoia School main site, and has been with Manteca Unified since 2002.

“But she also considers the needs of the annex,” Principal Jacqui Breitenbucher said.

She added: “Lisa is a true professional – she enjoys her job and is dedicated to Sequoia School.”
