LOS ANGELES (AP) — A barefoot, shirtless man who climbed down from an overpass on to a freeway sign and appeared ready to jump onto the 110 Freeway below brought traffic to a halt for about two hours in downtown Los Angeles.

The California Highway Patrol says reports came in shortly after 2 p.m. Monday saying the man climbed on to the sign from the 7th Street Bridge over the southbound side of the freeway, where all but one lane was shut down.

The CHP and LA police told the Los Angeles Times the man did not jump and was taken into police custody at about 4 p.m., and freeway lanes were gradually reopened.

The man’s name and reasons for climbing on to the sign have not been released.
