Mariane Catherine Weibel, age 91, passed away on September 3, 2010. She was born to Guastave R. and Wilhelmina Zielske on February 10, 1919 in Fairbault, Minnesota. The youngest of five children, she moved to California with her family in 1920.

She attended St. Peter Lutheran School and Church, where she was confirmed in 1933. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and participated in many other church activities.

She married Max Dowling in 1938 and they resided in Lodi. In 1945 Max was tragically killed in an automobile accident.

In 1948 she married William Weibel and in 1960 they moved to Manteca where she attended United Lutheran Church.

Bill and Mariane loved to travel with their trailer and boat, and they both enjoyed fishing. Mariane had an extensive antique collection and always decorated her home for every holiday. She lovingly hosted many family get-togethers. Mariane and her sister Laura, spent many hours together shopping, holding numerous garage sales, cooking and baking. Everyone remembers her famous cookies topped with whole candy bars.

In addition to her parents, Mariane is preceded in death by four siblings, Arnold, Alfred, Harold, and Laura.  

She is survived by her husband Bill, nieces, Barbara Ritchie, Patricia Spencer, Elaine Holm, and nephews, Al Zielske and Rev. Ronald Zielske. Extended family includes many great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 13, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in Lodi Memorial Cemetery, 5750 E. Pine St, Lodi, with Pastor Ed Koch of the Manteca United Lutheran Church officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made her memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
