ROUNDUP: Ripon girls basketball dominates Downey

Kaylee Hutchinson and the Ripon girls basketball team set the tone early against visiting Downey on Tuesday.

The senior wing accounted for 10 of the Indians’ 21 points in the opening quarter, and they rolled to a 62-22 non-league victory to improve to 2-0.

Hutchinson finished with a game-high 16 points and nine steals, ending her productive night with a 3-pointer in the third quarter. Sierra Hollis contributed 11 points and eight rebounds. Makenzie Loechler pulled down nine rebounds, and Gabby Delgado had six points and five steals.

Ripon totaled 20 steals and held the Knights to single digits in every quarter.



Weston Ranch 1, Franklin 0

The Cougars (3-0-1) bounced back from their disappointing 3-3 draw against Tokay, which battled back from a three-goal halftime deficit on Monday.

Armando Montes had the big moment on Tuesday, scoring with 10 minutes to go off a combination play with Angel Zapata. Goalie Marcos Arriaza recorded his second clean sheet of the season and was supported by the back-line quartet of Eleazar Nava, Mauricio Morales, Cesar Juarez and Jaime Arreola.



Ripon 7, Amador 2

It was all Indians (4-0) at Stouffer Field, as Maddie Winter poured in three goals and an assist in the blowout.

Olivia Maragos scored 16 seconds into the second half, setting a program record for the fastest goal in a half. Jaydin Kroutil added a goal and two assists. Grace Garza scored once. Amador (0-3) was charged with an own goal.

Peyton Naranjo and Ellena Parenti-Gomez split time at goal, coming up with one save apiece.


JV girls basketball

East Union 36, Gregori 27

Mariela Navarro led a balanced attack for the Lancers (2-0), scoring 10 points.

Alexa Zuniga added eight, while Ariana Exiga and Jatziry Garcia chipped in seven each.
