ROUNDUP: Ripon girls water polo downs Oakdale; boys fall short

Ripon’s girls water polo team is halfway to a Valley Oak League championship after defeating Oakdale 14-7 Tuesday at Ervin Zador Aquatic Center.

The boys game also had title implications, with Oakdale coming away with the 10-8 victory.

Mia Sickler paced Ripon’s girls with five goals and two assists. The Indians (3-0 VOL, 7-4 overall) had four different goal scorers as they opened up a 4-1 lead in the first period.

Hailey Knief added four goals, Taylor Blair had three goals and Kennedy Brubaker dished out four assists to go with her two goals. Taylor Brubaker and goalie Delaney Brubaker (two steals, three blocks) handed out two assists each.

Ben Rodgers was busy in front of the goal for the boys game as he had nine saves in the well-contested battle. Ripon (4-1, 7-3) played catch-up after the visiting Mustangs struck with early goals. Ben Svoboda beat the buzzer at the end of the opening quarter for a goal that closed the Indians in, 4-2.

Svoboda kept them in it for the rest of the half, accounting for all three of his team’s goals in the second period as remained behind 7-5 at halftime. Svoboda also finished with two assists.

McKeane Beier (two assists), Brody Biederman (assist), Teo West (assist) and Nathan Selna contributed one goal apiece for Ripon.

 

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Sierra 3, Kimball 1

Rebecca Thomson rung up 32 assists and seven aces to help Sierra (6-2 Valley Oak League, 8-4 overall) hold off host Kimball, 25-22, 22-25, 25-12, 25-19.

Zoe Kossart (nine kills), Elaina Threet (seven kills), Abigail Chapman (five kills, three blocks) and Sophia Marian (four kills) handled much of the hitting duties. Jenna Dalen anchored the back row with 20 digs.

 

GIRLS GOLF

Ripon 179, Linden 250

The Indians won Valley Foothill League North Division match handily at Elkhorn Golf Club in Stockton.

Gabbi Ilardi was the individual winner with a 2-over 38. Katie Martin was second with a 41, Zoe Bremer followed with a 48 and Vivian Parsons capped scoring with a 52.
