Seven Mantecans were a part of a Northern California all-star team that competed in the Legends Cup in Chino Hills this past weekend.

The team consisted of players from the state champion Elk Grove Everton, Manteca Flames, Manteca Futbol Club and Santa Clara Sporting.

Jenna Zuniga, Marcella Salyer, Faith Chavez, Alexis Vilarino, Selena Alvarez, Devenay Torres and Dayanna Hernandez helped the NorCal team take second in the prestigious tournament that features some of the nation’s best under-10 girls soccer clubs.

NorCal dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to the Blues in the finals, where Hernandez had a would-be goal denied by the keeper. The Blues’ goalie also batted away a free kick from Zuniga that would have tied it with 3 minutes left.

NorCal started the tournament with shutout victories, beating Chelsea FC 8-0, the SoCal Blues “B” team 4-0, South Bay Force Black 3-0 and United FC 2-0 in the semifinals.

California Cougars
The Stockton-based Cougars defeated County Line Heat 2-0 in NorCal Premier State Cup under-18 girls action this past weekend in Elk Grove.

Sierra High’s Sydnee Koscielecki contributed a goal and an assist in the win, as did Alexis Poppoff.
