Patterson pounds Northgate in junior all-stars semifinal

STOCKTON — Patterson sent 18 players to the plate in the second inning Tuesday, scoring the first 11 and 13 overall in a 17-5 five-inning mercy-rule win over Northgate in the semifinal of the District 67 Juniors All-Star tournament at Paul Weston Park.

Mitchell Carter (3 for 4, two RBI, double, two runs) had an RBI double and RBI single in the Patterson second. Andrew Garcia (3 for 3, two RBI, two runs, two doubles) added a two-RBI double and Logan Lund had an RBI single. Patterson took advantage of seven walks, a hit batter and an error in the frame.

Northgate took an early lead in the top of the first inning. Rudy Guiterrez reached on a leadoff error, took second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on Dominick Summerville’s single and game in on an Anthony Lynch groundout.

Northgate went ahead 2-1 in the top of the second when Santino Arranaga reached on an infield single, stole his way to third and came in on an error. In the fourth inning Northgate added a pair of runs. Ilijah Leon singled and Ryan Medina walked and both came around on stolen bases and passed balls for the two Northgate runs.

Northgate got its last run in the fifth inning when Israel Leon walked, stole second and came home on Ilijah Leon’s single.

Northgate faces either Manteca or Spreckels Park tonight at 7 in the consolation final and the winner advances to the championship round against Patterson on Saturday at noon.
