Manteca closes season with blowout win over EU

After narrowly losing to Valley Oak League sophomore girls champion Sonora at home Tuesday, Manteca moved into a second-place tie with rival East Union with its season-ending 40-24 on the Squires’ home floor Thursday.

The Buffaloes (11-5) took command early behind Jessica Reeder’s nine points. She finished with 11 and shared game-high honors with Mia Ramirez, who poured in seven in the third. Karleasha Thomoson chipped in with 10 points.

East Union (11-5, 16-10 overall) was led by Klasey Kachalkin and Kristen Piasecki, who scored eight points apiece.

Weston Ranch 40, Sierra 38

At Sierra, Jakie Richmond led all scorers with 12 points to help the Cougars sneak away with a victory. Francis Scherry attempted a 3-pointer to win it for Sierra but missed.

Alison Armstrong finished with 11 points, four rebounds and three steals to lead Sierra. Kelly Paredes added 10 points, and Shelby Shirron had eight points and 10 rebounds.

Sophomore boys
Weston Ranch 64, Oakdale 54

OAKDALE — Dylan Alexander accounted for over half of the Cougars’ points with 33. Paul Sampayan contributed six, but all six came off clutch free throws that helped Weston Ranch pull away in the fourth quarter.

Freshman girls
East Union 42, Manteca 25

Host East Union (13-3, 21-4) coasted to victory to cap a successful season.

Alyssa Gonigan pumped in 15 points to lead the way. Alex Scopas and Angelique Cardoza scored six apiece. Elani Freeman finished with eight, and Manveer Hundal contributed six for Manteca.
