RIPON — The Ripon High boys varsity water polo closed out Valley Oak League play at the Ervin Zador Aquatic Center Wednesday with an 11-8 loss to Oakdale.
The Mustangs did most of their damage in the second period by scoring seven unanswered goals.
"They're an aggressive team with more experience and size, " said Indians coach Erik Zador of the league's top team Oakdale (6-0 VOL, 15-10 overall).
Ripon (0-3, 2-8), in contrast, is a sophomore-dominated team.
"We're young and still learning the fundamentals of the game," Zador added.
The first period ended in a 2-2 tie, with Sebastian Mora and Kaleb Hinrichsen of the Indians matching goals with the Mustangs' Chandler Neal and Nathan Womack.
Hinrichsen's tying goal came with 55.6 second in the period.
Oakdale poured it on after that. Ethan Perry scored twice while David Terwilliger, Spencer Ruthman, Mason Chase, Stash Perry and Aron Cameron contributed goals in the barrage.
The Mustangs made it 11-2 in the third before Ripon's Kai West ended the 9-0 run with a goal at the 43.2 second mark.
The Indians' best run came in the fourth with Maika West scoring twice and Donovan Armstrong and Conner Self each adding goals.
Goalie Matthew De La O had 10 saves for Ripon.

It was a tale of two halves for the Indians (0-4, 4-11).
"We're a second-half team," said coach Matt Corgiat after his team made it close by outscoring the Mustangs in the final two frames, 5-3. "I liked the way our girls kept on fighting."
Ripon fell behind 6-1 to Oakdale (6-0, 15-7), the league's top team, at the intermission.
The Indians were led by sophomore Molly Burton, who scored four goals.
They also got one score each from Kailey Medeiros and Ashtyne Topie, both sophomores, too.
