RIPON — Second-seeded Ripon dominated No. 7 Orestimba of Newman on Tuesday in a 4-0 opening-round win in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V playoffs on a windy night at Stouffer Field.
With the wind in their face in the first half, the defending champion Indians managed just one goal in the 32nd minute when Haley Peterson took a tap from Devaney Dougherty and got it in the net for a 1-0 lead.
In the 49th minute, Kailey Tijero headed in a corner kick from Ariana Scholten, her fourth header goal of the year. Six minutes later, Tijero got a long through ball to Scholten who blasted a shot in from 20 yards out and two minutes after that Peterson dished an assist to Aubree Pelon to wrap up the scoring.

SONORA – Beset by injuries, the seventh-seeded Knights (15-3-5) battled the No. 2 Bears of Tuolumne (12-3-3) to a scoreless first half before succumbing at Sonora High’s Dunlavey Field.
Summerville got its two goals less than two minutes apart, scoring the first on a rebound in the 53rd minute and then in the 54th minute on a through ball over the defense.
Filling in at goalie for Nicole Chapman and coming off of an injury herself, Maddie de Graaf practiced for the first time in four weeks Monday and made eight saves for Ripon Christian.
“This was a great group of girls with excellent leadership from seniors,” Knights coach Kevin Tameling said. "We played very disciplined soccer defensively and allowed only 11 goals all year.
“I couldn’t be prouder of where we started to where we finished.”
